It is about soccer.
Josep "Pep" Guardiola was a coach who came to FC Barcelona in the 2008-09 season. Guardiola took a team full of stars. They had won 20 consecutive games in La Liga. It was a great team.
Pep first did get rid of some of his stars, such as Ronaldinho, Deco, or Samuel Eto'o. They did not fit his philosophy.
What coach would not want those players in his team? I could say that the only one in the world was Pep.
The arrival of Pep and his philosophy would change the team and change the way we play the game forever.
If you ever want to change something forever, open your eyes wide.
At that time, it was believed that the best way to attack was to have fast players capable of making great plays on the wing and good counterattacks. Guardiola felt the opposite. His team would not play to run nor to fight physically. They would play to pass the ball with short players.
Xavi and Iniesta would take the ball in midfield, and Messi would have to help create space to score goals.
His short passing philosophy was so novel that not even his players were used to it. They were defeated by a newly promoted Numancia in the first league game.
At the press conference after the game, Guardiola said that the team had played spectacularly and that if they continued to follow his system, they would go on to win many games.
He coached his players to learn to play with their heads.
This made FC Barcelona one of the best teams in the world. It won La Liga three years in a row, two Copa del Rey, two UEFA Champions Leagues, and two FIFA Club World Cups.
I guess you have already understood that what Guardiola built into the team was a system. The players' only job was to follow it.
It didn't matter if they woke up that day inspired or not. The system even worked by changing the players.
This system was implemented in the Spanish National Team, and they went on to win the European Championship, the World Cup, and the European Championship in a row. The only team in history that had achieved it.
And what does this have to do with the newsletter?
A system precedes all successes in life—finance, sports, work, etc. If you go outside the system, sooner or later, you will end up losing.
We have our system, and we make a lot of money with it. Sometimes we are above the indexes, sometimes below, but sooner or later, we will be way above.
The best results are always preceded by looking as little as possible at the YTD of the portfolio. We do our job a priori, create a system, and follow it.
There is not only a sound system. There are countless of them, as many as there are investors. Just find the one that suits you. Don't be like Ronaldinho or Eto'o, who didn't fit the team.
Create yours, trust it, and don't look at the results. They will come by themselves.
Today we leave you in Kindle format, one of the books that best represent our style and that we hope you enjoy.
