Yesterday, I was doing CrossFit with a friend who works in the investment world, specifically at Rothschild, where he has been employed for over 10 years. For those who don’t know, Rothschild is an investment bank that originated from one of the richest families in the world. They now train young professionals and require them to work long hours every week. Just as an example, my friend mentioned that the day before, he worked until midnight and had to get up at 4 a.m. to send out some documents.
Examples like this also make me realize that a focused job can really push someone to go further in their personal and physical development. He’s someone who never skips his 6 a.m. workouts. He also eats well and finds time to spend with family and friends. It’s all about discipline. As he says: "Don’t question why you’re getting up in the mornings."
That’s not the main point, though. What I really enjoy is hearing the perspective of people so deeply immersed in the sector. I like to understand how they view money and how they manage their own wealth.
What he told me was incredibly useful—one of those pieces of advice that stays with you for a long time and shows you that many people in the industry truly understand money.
Many people can’t comprehend why Monish Pabrai paid millions to have dinner with Warren Buffett. The reason is that people like Buffett can see in seconds what you might not see in years. It’s about a mindset that opens the door to potential financial freedom.
